All-American Rejects’ Second DVD

It was way back in 2003 that the All-American Rejects released their first DVD: Live From Oklahoma: Too Bad For Hell

Four years later, the Rejects are about to release their second live DVD on July 10th 2007.

According to Alternative Press, the DVD will be called Tornado and will include both a live concert filmed in Minneapolis back in December of 2006 and a behind-the-scenes-on-the-road documentary.

The band’s second album, Move Along, came out back in 2005 and the band is currently working on the follow-up. (Which I am excited to hear!)

Punk’s Not Dead: It Only Smells That Way

When the four Ramones brothers dragged their scraggly carcasses onto the stage of CBGBs back in the waning 1970s, who would have thought that only one of them would be alive 30 years later to witness the celebratory energy of the movie Punk’s Not Dead.

From filmmaker Susan Dynner, this documentary emmersion into the “sweaty underground clubs, backyard parties, recording studios, and yes, shopping malls and stadium shows where punk rock music and culture continue to thrive” will be a great evening out for young emos and their burn-out uncles alike.

The movie’s good enough for No Doubt‘s Adrian Young and his wife, who attended the Los Angeles premiere.

P.S. No need to point out that the Ramones were not really brothers.

A Groupie Is…?

There so many good things in the July issue of Alt Press, I didn’t know what to share. But then I got to page 128, “22 Music-Centric Books” and saw that Pamela DesBarres groupie memoir topped the list:

Then I went and flipped back through my Nylon mag and indeed, the groupie godmother is putting out another book:

I bring these books, or rather, this topic up because I want to know what your idea of a groupie is. I’m not gonna get on my soapbox for this one, because I already spent a quarter of my college life doing at 25 page paper on the derogatory nature of the word groupie… all because of this shirt, which was being sold in Hot Topic at the time:

So what do you think? Is a groupie just a promiscuous girl with goals, or just someone who gives genuinely dedicated fans another obstacle to overcome? Know any guys who’ve ever been called a groupie?

A Groupie is…

Dictionary.com says the definition is simply: 1. a young person, esp. a teenage girl, who is an ardent admirer of rock musicians and may follow them on tour OR an ardent fan of a celebrity or of a particular activity: a tennis groupie.

But the G-word has implied meanings as well. What do you think it means?
