Gym Class Heroes Discuss Racial Slur at Missouri Warped Tour: ‘I Wasn’t Necessarily Surprised’
Earlier this month, Gym Class Heroes singer Travis McCoy was arrested at the Warped Tour in St. Louis for striking an audience member (who had called him an “ignorant n*****”) with a microphone. Almost a month after the incident, guitarist Disashi Lumumba-Kasongo and bassist Eric Roberts have decided to share their thoughts on the incident.

“I don’t think, for me
personally, I wasn’t necessarily surprised that that happened because I
think things have gotten better, but it’s still not perfect in terms of
racism and other kinds of hate … but I was definitely surprised that it
happened right then and there. In all these shows that we’re playing,
something like that is the exception and not the rule. All these people
come together, hundreds of thousands of kids every day and sh– … stuff
like that never goes down … so it definitely caught me and everyone else
in our band off guard,” Kasonogo told Ultimate-Guitar. “You know for that guy to
come here and just… He didn’t just disrespect us he disrespected the
whole entire friggin’ Warped Tour and everybody there, so that was a
pretty big surprise,” added Roberts.
Gym Class Heroes will release their fourth full-length, The Quilt, on September 9. Check out the music video for “Peace Sign/Index Down” from the upcoming record and catch the band on the rest of the Warped Tour this summer and in the U.K. this September.

Katy Perry and Miley Cyrus to Kiss on TV? One of the Singers Says ‘No Thanks’
Weeks after Katy Perry revealed to Steppin’ Out magazine that she would like to kiss Miley Cyrus at this year’s Teen Choice Awards, Cyrus has responded with some not-so-nice words for the “I Kiss a Girl” singer.

[Click picture to see more photos]
“No thanks. She sang on my record. So I think she’s kind of getting back at
me, because she was doing harmonies and backgrounds,” Cyrus told E! with a laugh. Burnnnnnn!
Ms. Perry isn’t one to keep silent about an attack of this nature and responded to Perez Hilton with “6 weeks in a row at number one. And she recorded two of my old songs.” Burnnnn right back!
During the recent interview with Steppin’ Out magazine, Perry joked about the kiss, explaining: “Maybe we’ll have another Britney Spears-Madonna moment on stage [referring to their famous kiss at the 2003 MTV Music Video Awards]. How hilarious would that be? Although I don’t
think it would help her career. However, it would definitely help mine!”
If you want to talk numbers … Perry’s One of the Boys has sold over 205,000 copies since its June 17 release, while Cyrus’ Breakout debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 charts this week over 371,000 copies sold. Even though Cyrus has sold more records than Perry … both are doing insanely well and shouldn’t be complaining … Maybe they should just kiss and make up! Do you agree?
The Teen Choice Awards airs this Saturday at 8 pm. on FOX. Meanwhile, you can catch Perry on the Warped Tour until its final stop at Home Depot Center in Carson, CA on August 17.
