Travis Barker Talks Recovery With TRL: ‘I’m Already Playing My Drums Again’

Travis Barker appeared on MTV’s Total Finale Live via satellite last night for his first televised interview since his September plane crash. While brief, Barker did give us an update on his drumming, which many feared would suffer due to the burns on both his hands …

“I’m already playing my drums again and I’m already back in the studio,” Barker declared, when asked by host Damien Fay about the possibilty of making new music. “It was like
riding a bike. It was really exciting to know I still have my chops. It still felt
good. I still can make it around the kit. Everything felt right, so I’m
thankful to be able to play.”

Barker went on to discuss TRL’s impact on Blink-182‘s career, specifically after the “What’s My Age Again?” video began to air daily on the show, explaining, “Oh my gosh. After we were on TRL, our audience got so much bigger. We were exposed to a whole different audience of people.”

Barker did not mention anything about his current band with Mark Hoppus, +44, or the followup to 2006′s When Your Heart Stops Beating, but it’s safe to assume that once Barker is feeling up to the challenge, recording will be underway. I mean, could you really picture Barker not playing drums for the rest of his life!?

How did Barker’s first televised interview make you feel? Are you happy that he’s back playing drums or do you think he should be at home resting?

SAY CHEESE: Hayley Williams, Mane in Action

This week’s special photo gallery spotlights one of the most dynamic frontwomen we know, Hayley Williams of Paramore. It’s no insult to say one of her best-known features, after her powerhouse voice, is her famously shaggy hairdo. Hence we proudly present our “10 Favorite Pictures of Hayley Williams’ Mane in Action.” Sure, when she gets to jumping around it starts to resemble a flaming porcupine, but after checking out these photos we think you’ll agree: she’s a born headbanger.

‘Twilight’ Sequels Get Greenlighted

“Twilight” movie-mania is about to send fangirls into dazzle-induced seizures and—although the movie opens next week—there really is no end in sight.

Well, I guess that’s a bit melodramatic—it’ll end, just anytime soon. Summit Entertainment has given the go ahead for two sequels, and your darling Robert Pattinson has said yes to both of ‘em.

“New Moon” and “Eclipse” will be adapted by the same screenwriter that worked on Twilight, and if you’re lucky, author Stephenie Meyer will keep stepping in to keep the dialogue dumbed-down. I mean, what?

No word on a movie for “Breaking Dawn,” the final book in the series, but I guess they’ve got time, eh?

Anthony Kiedis Developing Cable TV Show About His Childhood

Following in the footsteps of the great Chris Rock (“Everybody Hates Chris”), Red Hot Chili Peppers singer Anthony Kiedis is developing a television show for HBO about his crazy childhood in Los Angeles.

According to Variety, the show is tentatively titled “Scar Tissue” and Kiedis is working with Catapult 360 partners Marc Abrams (“Entourage,” “The Bernie Mac Show”) and Michael Benson (“Entourage,” “The Bernie Mac Show”) to make the idea come to life.

Variety reports that the show will center on ‘Kiedis’ relationship with his father, Spider, who sold drugs and mingled with rock stars on the Sunset Strip, all while aspiring to get into showbiz’ and ‘West Hollywood and Los Angeles in the early 1970s, including the rock stars encountered by Kiedis and his father.’

“He introduced me to the arts, to a more culturally magnificent life,” Kiedis explained to Variety, discussing his father. “But some of it was this heavy, adult matter that I wasn’t quite capable of digesting … It was a very rich but kind of challenging period of my life. I was thrust into this adult mentality by age 11.”

Kiedis is currently pondering both narraration duties on “Scar Tissue” and making a cameo appearance here and there. This would be a great opportunity for fans to catch a glimpse of Mr. Kiedis while RHCP is on their current hiatus.

Bassist Flea!is definately keeping busy during the band’s well-deserved break. Currently studying “the math and academics” of musical structure at a prviate California school, Flea recently spoke to Los Angeles Times about his decision to enroll in classes, explaining, “I’m glad my music education has developed the way that it has, but it’s so much fun to learn this stuff because I never knew anything.”

Would you be interested in watching “Scar Tissue?” Which musician would you want to see in a scripted show about their childhood?

Josh Farro of Paramore Talks About New Songs… Sort Of

Ready for your Riot! follow up,
Paramore fans? Well, don’t hold your
breath. Josh Farro talked
to Rock Sound
about their progress on album numero tres, and
basically—it’s just a collection of musical ideas thus far.

”None of the songs are finished, but we do have
some ideas here and there.
We have anywhere from
eight to 10 musical ideas. They’re all pretty much just music; I think
Hayley’s got some lyrics somewhere and bits of melody that she sings
along to whenever we’re sound-checking a song.”

The band recently released the lead track and a music video for
“Decode” which is on the motion picture soundtrack for
“Twilight.”
