All Time Low Release New Song on AbsolutePunk

Yep, you read that right. In anticipation of releasing Nothing Personal this summer on Hopeless Records, the boys in All Time Low have just given AbsolutePunk an exclusive new song: “Weightless.” Don’t swoon in anticipation just yet, because you can hear a streaming version (and purchase the track!) in just a matter of seconds. Then you can swoon.

You can head on over to AbsolutePunk for their exclusive offering of “Weightless” in a nifty flash player.

Even better, Alex posted the official lyrics on page 10 of the comment thread. Wonderful!

Check out the song and let us know what you think of it.

Avril Lavigne And Deryck Whibley: Is It Getting Complicated?

Is potentially washed up singer-actress-model-fashion-designer Avril Lavigne more interested in getting wasted than nesting with her diminutive husband? According to reports from the NY Daily News, the answer is “yes.”

Avril Lavigne and her oddly-proportioned husband Deryck Whibley (Sum 41) were spotted this weekend partying in Los Angeles. Totally not a big deal, right? Well, it gets to be a big deal when Lavigne ignores her man to chug back fuzzy navels—or whatever it is she decided to drink that night. A source who witnessed the whole thing said, “[Lavigne] kept downing vodka drinks, to the point where she was obliterated. She ended up fighting with her husband before ignoring him completely.”

Damn! That’s harsh. We wonder how long this pop-punk union will last. What do you think?

Daily Music Dose: Bayside

RememberTheStars thinks that Bayside are a little more “punk” than “pop” and it’s hard to ignore the band’s more aggressive leanings. They’ve come a long way in the last 9 years and their catchy and intelligent music might be just what you needed.

Take Action: CIWWAF

Songs, sweat and priceless photo-moments made the Hawthorne Theater gig rock. Sanda Razo shot.

Death Cab For Cutie Dole Out ‘Little Bribes’

The funny thing about cleaning out your closet is, even though it can be a big ol’ pain in the booty, it can also lead to the unearthing of the most amazing treasures. That’s kind of the deal with Death Cab For Cutie, who are on the verge of releasing a new EP, The Open Door, containing unreleased/leftover stuff from the recording sessions where they created last year’s terrific Narrow Stairs album. And guess what? You get to hear it first – our bros at Stereogum are busting out a new song from the EP each day this week, starting today. Check the debut of “Little Bribes,” a song formerly known as “Casino Blues.” (Of course, if you’re a die-hard Death Cab fan from the days of “The O.C.” and you’ve been seeing Ben Gibbard’s solo shows, it may sound a little familiar — but just as awesome as you remember.) Enjoy.

SXSW ’09: Bands To Watch

I just flew back from Austin, Texas… and, boy, are my arms tired! (I’ll be here all night, folks. Be sure to try the veal.) No, seriously, I’m totally zonked from five days of seeing great bands, eating guacamole, walking up and down 6th Street, sweating, seeing bad bands, shaking hands, kissing babies, stepping over horse poop and stuffing my face with tortilla chips. Aside from the sunburn and salt bloat, which bands left me kvelling?

An Horse (http://www.anhorse.com)

This Australian duo might look familiar if you happened to see them on tour with Tegan And Sara in 2008. However, drummer Damon Cox and singer/guitarist Mary Trembles are breaking out from opener status with the release of their debut album Rearrange Beds, which came out March 17th. Their vocal harmonies are reminiscent of Mates Of State with a slightly more aggressive indie-rock vibe. In other words, I’m totally hooked and can’t wait to see them this spring when they make the tour rounds with Wintersleep and Appleseed Cast.

The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart (http://www.thepainsofbeingpureatheart.com)

I don’t think I went more than five minutes without hearing some music insider raving about this New York City-based indie pop band—and with good reason. Not one to be easily swayed by hype, I decided to check ‘em out and walked away wanting the songs of their debut—like “This Love Is Fucking Right” and “The Tenure Itch”—to be the soundtrack of my year. They were that amazing. Although I was smooshed in a crowded club with two hundred nerdy audiophiles, I was able to close my eyes, listen to the sunshine bright tunes and be magically transported into my very own John Hughes movie. Remember that scene in Sixteen Candles when Samantha and Jake Ryan are sitting on the glass table with the birthday cake between them? Well, The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart are kind of like the musical equivalent of the optimistic innocense captured in that very moment.

Two Hours Traffic (http://www.twohourstraffic.com)

It’s kind of ironic that a sweet lil’ quartet from Canada (Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, to be exact) can create some of the best and brightest brand of Americana music I’ve heard in years. I first heard about them when I was stalking—er, researching—one of the characters on The N’s Instant Star, who just so happened to be a musician, and I’ve been dying to see them for the past 12 months. Mission accomplished. If you’re a fan of Wilco and Limbeck, you are going to instantly fall in love with these floods-wearing gents. However, if you need to be convinced, take a listen to “Stuck For The Summer,” off the band’s latest album Little Jabs, and prepare to build a life.

You Me At Six (http://www.youmeatsix.co.uk)

Before I started working at Buzznet, I did some writing for Kerrang! Magazine. It’s such a rad publication and when I heard they were having a party in Austin, I knew I had to put it on my dance card. I showed up specifically to see these British pop punkers because they always seem to be pimped in the pages of Kerrang! and a lil’ birdie told me they were signing to Epitaph—just like their pals in Bring Me The Horizon, who also happened to be on the SXSW bill. In fact, BMTH frontman Oli Sykes was front row, in case you were wondering. I was totes impressed and can’t wait to sing along with songs like “Save It For The Bedroom” and “Jealous Minds Think Alike” when heads out on the Vans Warped Tour this summer. Now, this is the kind of British invasion I can totally get into.

RDX Wall Art: The Making Of

RDX Wall Art: The Making Of

The new Acura RDX spot, "Wall Art," reveals the turbocharged crossover SUVs city prowess—darting through alleys, ducking around corners, navigating the urban landscape.

In fact, its the landscape that really sets this spot apart. Enlisting the director duo of Chris Hopewell and Ben Foley of Collision Films (previous work includes music videos for Radiohead and Franz Ferdinand), this RDX commercial uses stop-frame animation techniques while plugging into the street art phenomenon. Famed Bristol, UK-based street artist Sainty (Henry St Leger), along with a team of 17 graffiti artists and painters, brought this idea to life on a massive 100-foot by 40-foot wall. All art was done by artists, not CGI.

"Wall Art" opens with an RDX parked in front of a blank wall. This same wall is painted and repainted with cityscape scenes, hundreds and hundreds of times, to animate the background behind the vehicle. The 10-day shoot for "Wall Art" used more than 450 gallons of paint and 500 cans of spray paint, resulting in more than 400 layers of paint on the wall.

"Wall Art" is premised on the RDXs turbocharged engine, agile handling and sporty stance—the RDX is perfect for the city. The spot instills a sense of artistry and upscale sophistication in the brand.

Featuring a combination of large-scale street art and stop-frame animation set to Elias Arts composer Kenny Segals track, the commercial literally illustrates that the RDX is equipped for anything the city can create.
