Celeb New Year’s Resolutions: Shaved Heads For Charity, Tattoos
‘I make resolutions every five minutes and then I never stick to them,’ Florence Welch admits.

Can you hear that? It’s the final hours of 2011 winding down, getting ready for a bright and shiny 2012. And what better way to welcome the new year than with another round of celebrity New Year’s resolutions?
MTV News recently sought out a few of our favorite movers and shakers, including Mac Miller, Florence Welch and the boys of Blink-182, to see what they’re resolving to achieve next year.
“I make resolutions every five minutes and then I never stick to them,” Welch admitted.
“My New Year’s resolution is to be more patient and observant,” said 2011 Hottest Breakthrough MC nominee Roscoe Dash. “I feel like if you’re patient, you’re going to be more observant anyway because you’ve got nothing but time on your hands.”
“[I resolve] to have more fun, gain some weight and I want to make a difference in the world. I’m shaving my head next year for charity,” 2011 VMA House Artist Jessie J revealed. “I just want to bring more good [to the world].”
Fellow Hottest Breakthrough MC nominee French Montana vowed to keep on keepin’ on. “Definitely not to change,” he said of his resolution. “Everything I’ve been doing has been working so far, so definitely not to change.”
“My New Year’s resolution is to be healthier in every aspect of my life,” Mac Miller said with a smile.
We’re impressed by all the warm and fuzzy do-good-esque commitments, but Tom Delonge of Blink 182 gets special commendation for his specificity and honesty.
“I want to get another tattoo,” Delonge announced. “But I need to exercise before I get it because I want to be able to show it off and look really awesome. It’s mostly on my genital area,” he joked. “No, no, I want to do a back piece.”
“Travis, do you have a New Year’s resolution?” Blink 182 frontman Mark Hoppus asked his bandmate Travis Barker. “I’m down with Tom’s,” Barker said, prompting Hoppus to also throw his support behind Delonge.
“Our New Year’s resolution is for Tom to get a back piece,” he said.
Before making those resolutions a reality, many celebrities will be out and about on New Year’s Eve looking to break loose at a number of big New Year’s parties. And MTV will also be getting in on the fun during “NYE in NYC 2012,” which will feature Selena Gomez, Demi Lovato, Mac Miller and more. The show airs live at 11 p.m. ET on Saturday from Times Square, where the famous ball drops.

Katy Perry And Russell Brand Divorce Details Emerge
Sources say a ‘massive fight’ led to Brand’s divorce filing Friday.

On Friday, Russell Brand filed for divorce from his pop-star wife, Katy Perry, after only a year of marriage. With the new year on the horizon, more details about what led to their split are emerging.
Sources told Us Weekly that the couple always fought, but in the time leading up to the divorce filing, the arguments had gotten more heated, leading to one “massive fight.”
“She was like, ‘F— you. I’m going to do my own thing.’ Russell replied, ‘Fine, f— you too,’ ” the source explained.

Meanwhile, other sources close to the couple told E! News that the twosome had spent “a lot of time apart” as of late and that they have been having a number of “problems.” TMZ further reports that those separate vacations were planned so that neither party would be in L.A. when the papers were filed.
The couple had been having problems for some time, and after trying to make it work, TMZ sources add that “it just wasn’t there” anymore. Brand eventually filed for divorce first due to Perry’s strong religious beliefs and background.
Other reports suggest that Brand and Perry may have had differing views about how they wanted to live their lives. The Daily Mail reports that recovering drug addict Brand didn’t approve of Perry’s friends (like fellow pop star Rihanna). He had reportedly asked her to “tone it down.”
The split may be surprising for some given that in the past few weeks, the former couple had gushed about one another in various interviews. When Brand stopped by “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” he steadfastly denied that he and Perry had plans to divorce. “There are always rumors, aren’t there? In the end, you have to just not engage with Internet technology, which is difficult, because a lot of the nude-women websites I quite enjoy,” he joked.
“I’ve treated the whole Internet now like it’s a wicked little liar,” he added. “Yeah. I am really happily married. I’m married to Katy. Perpetually, until death do us part was the pledge.”
In fact, when MTV News spoke to Perry at rehearsals for her “Saturday Night Live” hosting gig earlier this month, she noted that she was getting lots of advice from her soon-to-be ex-husband. “My husband, of course, every day I call him and I’m like, ‘This happened,’ and he’s like, ‘I know what that means, and here’s the next play-by-play for tomorrow,’ so he’s gotten me really prepared for this week, thankfully.”
Whatever happens next for these two in 2012, the comedian noted in a statement that he hoped to remain friends with Perry. “Sadly, Katy and I are ending our marriage. I will always adore her and I know we’ll remain friends.” Perry has remained mum since the news broke.
The couple kicked off their love affair at the 2009 VMAs when Brand was hosting and Perry was on hand as one of the night’s performers. They later got engaged in India during a New Year’s vacation months later. The pair married in a lavish affair in India in 2010. News of their split comes days after they sparked split rumors when they were seen separately over the Christmas holiday sans wedding rings.

Jason Derulo Promises ‘High-Energy’ MTV New Year’s Set
Singer will perform on MTV’s ‘NYE in NYC 2012′ along with Mac Miller, Selena Gomez and J. Cole.

It’s almost that time to ring in the new year, and what better way to do so than with MTV? “NYE in NYC 2012″ will air live at 11 p.m. ET on Saturday from Times Square, hosted by Demi Lovato and Tyler Posey of “Teen Wolf.”
Also on hand to count down will be some of music’s biggest stars, including J. Cole, Mac Miller, Selena Gomez and Jason Derülo, who will be performing in our Times Square studios.
“I cannot think of another way to bring the new year in than with MTV.” Derülo told MTV News. “I’m excited — new year, new beginnings.”
Derülo plans to excite the crowd with two hit songs from his sophomore album, Future History, which was released earlier this year.
“I’ll be doing ‘It Girl’ and ‘Don’t Wanna Go Home,’ a medley of the two,” Derülo revealed. “[There will] be a lot of high-energy dancing.”
Derülo isn’t just gearing up for his own performance, he’s excited to see what his fellow performers have in store for the big night.
“It’s going to be a crazy show, I hope you guys are tuning in because lots of great performers,” Derülo said. “You have different flavors from all around.”
Of course, with a new year comes a new resolution, so what will Derülo be doing differently in 2012? “Not being late to a lot of places.” Derülo said. “I don’t want to say I’m usually late; I’m fashionably late. I think being 20 minutes is a little too much, but if you’re in the 15 margin, I think you’re golden.”

T.I. To Celebrate New Year’s Eve With New Mixtape
‘New year, new money. That’s that,’ Tip tells MTV News.

T.I. has a lot to celebrate this New Year’s Eve. This time last year, the King of the South was locked up, serving an 11-month sentence for a probation violation, but since his September release Tip has been on a tear, dropping a ton of new music and landing a reality show with his wife, Tiny, on VH1.
Tip has some big plans for ringing in the new year, even though he tries to downplay things. “For New Year’s I’m gonna be waitin’ on F— da City Up to drop. We got a party poppin’ off down here in Atlanta, 200 Peachtree. We gonna turn up and it’s basically that,” he told MTV News nonchalantly. “Between the party and the mixtape, that’s all I got going. New year, new money. That’s that.”
Tip has been dropping viral teasers for F— da City Up for about a week; the latest one, which dropped on Tuesday, shows T.I. in the studio with Dr. Dre.
“Dre was here. He sent for me, and of course I answered. We really just turned up more than anything else. It was about creating chemistry,” T.I. told MTV News while in Atlanta preparing for the release of the tape.
On New Year’s Eve, T.I. and his Grand Hustle fam will host a party in the Grand Atrium at target="_blank">200 Peachtree in downtown Atlanta from 9 p.m. ET to 3:00 a.m. Sounds like fun.
For those who want to snuggle up on their couch and avoid all the partying madness, MTV has your back. This year Demi Lovato, Mac Miller, Selena Gomez, J. Cole, Jason Derulo and more will be on hand for “NYE in NYC 2012,” which will air live at 11 p.m. ET on Saturday (December 31) from Times Square, where the famous ball drops on, you guessed it, MTV.
