The Big Pink Blast Through Los Angeles, CA 3/9/10

English noise pop band, The Big Pink, came storming through Los Angeles with their stop at the El Rey Theatre on Tuesday. The LA crowd was lively and ready for the Brits to bring their noise.

The Big Pink is on tour in support of their debut album, A Brief History of Love. With their single, Dominos, word quickly spread about the band and gained a large amount of popularity. Their sound is inspired by bands such as the Velvet Underground, Cocteau Twins, and My Bloody Valentine.

The central element of a Big Pink show is noise and lots of it at very high volume. Vocalist/guitarist, Robbie Furze, was dressed in a leather jacket, looking like Marc Almond in his new wave era. Furze hammered away at his strings while stomping at various pedals beneath his feet. Keyboardist, Milo Cordell, played violently nearly dropping his entire set onto the crowd. The band was an explosion of energy to match that of the the sound that blasted out the speakers. The show left me with a smile on my face and my ears ringing for several hours after. The Big Pink had the girls of Los Angeles falling like dominos.

The Big Pink are definitely a force not to be reckoned with and are on the verge of becoming the next big thing.
